Do I need to be certified?
Manufacturers
If you are ‘processing’ a food product and intend to market it as organic, EU regulations require you to be licensed. The term ‘processing’ includes manufacturing, packing and re-packing, importing (from non-EU countries), labelling and re-labelling organic products
Farmers and Growers
If you are raising plants or animals and selling the product as organic then you need to be licensed.
Importers
If you are bringing in organic products from outside the EU you are required to be licensed. Additional forms are also required from DEFRA see:
Storage and Warehousing
If you store organic products for a third party who is not a retailler, the EU regulation now requires that you have certification for your operation.
