Legacies

Much of the work we do would not be possible were it not for the kindness of people who remember us in their wills. In 2008, over £100,000 was bequeathed to the Soil Association.

You can download a copy of our brochure below which explains how leaving a legacy such as a financial gift or a gift of land to the Soil Association can create a healthier planet and a sustainable future. Alternatively for more information or to be sent a hard copy of the brochure please call 0117 987 4579.

Case study: Tania Harrington

In 2009 we offered Soil Association members the chance to benefit from a free will writing service. Tania Harrington, from Diss in Norfolk, was one member who took advantage. As she explains ‘Making a will was something that I’d never really got round to thinking about, but I knew it was something I needed to get around to. You don’t think about it when you’re younger, but if something does happen, it’s horrendous for those left behind if you haven’t got your estate in order.’

Once Tania had decided to take advantage of the offer, making the will was straightforward. ‘It was really simple,’ she says, ‘the Free Wills network provided a list of solicitors, and I found one locally and arranged a visit. I only needed one appointment and it took about an hour – it was definitely value for money as I didn’t pay a penny.’

Tania was kind enough to leave a legacy of £500 to the Soil Association. ‘It doesn’t seem much to me, but it’s great to leave something to a cause I believe in, especially given the ecological issues we’ll be leaving to future generations.’

Legacy gifts like this, both large and small are a very important part of our income. We are incredibly grateful for any legacy you are able to provide, thank you.

We’re delighted to announce that the free will writing service has now been extended into early 2010 for Soil Association members. To take advantage of this service please contact our membership team on 0117 914 2447 and quote your name, address and membership number.
