Organic farm network
If you would like to find out more about organic food and farming, why not visit an organic farm? The Soil Association has an extensive network of more than 100 farms across the UK who run special visits, open days and other public activities. New farms are joining all the time, and we have members who can show you everything from walled vegetable gardens to remote hill farms and even a vineyard.
Many of us (over 29% of UK adults) have never set foot on a farm. Yet visiting a farm – even once – can be a life-changing experience. It highlights, vividly, the intimate links between food, health, farming and the environment. It helps people see how their food starts out. It demonstrates how we can choose to eat food that helps the environment rather than damages it. Organic farming boosts the number of insect, bird and plant species. Farmers avoid using pesticides and other chemicals on their farms, so that the food they produce is truly sustainable. A visit to an organic farm can bring this to life.
If you feel inspired by your visit to a farm, you might want to support the work of the Land Trust. The Land Trust is a new initiative combining the energy and resources of its founding partners, the Soil Association, Land Heritage Trust and the Paget Estate, to safeguard land for organic and sustainable farming, in perpetuity.
The Land Trust's mission is to acquire organic and traditionally managed farms and land through gifts, bequests and purchases, and to safeguard their future by managing them in trust in perpetuity, organically and sustainably.
